The Oakland Beach Carousel Foundation Story

Of the People

Beginning with its origin as a "working man's resort" at the end of the trolley line, to the modern day beach with restaurants, bike and pedestrian path, the community of Oakland Beach in Warwick, Rhode Island has always been prized for its unparalleled views of Greenwich and Narragansett bays. Imagine enjoying this scenic retreat from the workaday world while riding your favorite horse on the Oakland Beach Carousel?

Founded in 1997, the Oakland Beach Carousel Foundation is an All-Volunteer RI Non-Profit Corporation dedicated to building that carousel. Filled with horses uniquely designed and hand carved by our staff of volunteers, the carousel will also feature original paintings in its rounding boards.

By the People

The carousel project will take several years to complete. When it is finally up and running, the Oakland Beach Carousel Foundation will then refocus its efforts to the operation of the carousel and to the establishment of a trust, through which the distribution of the net earnings of the carousel will be made to qualified community groups working to promote and enhance positive growth within their neighborhoods.

For the People

A true and lasting sense of ownership and pride of accomplishment are two of the many rewards our volunteers enjoy through their participation. Forging new and lasting friendships is another. Our volunteers are a part of history in the making. Future generations will learn of their efforts in our archives and touch the results of the dedication and craftsmanship of their family, friends and neighbors.
